Routes to work

You may want to target specific employers and approach them at their workplace about the possibility of work, even if no job has been advertised. You may have to visit numerous employers, but even if there is no work at the time, leave your resume and covering letter and follow up later.

You may also cold call businesses to enquire about vacancies. But before you dial, have a clear idea about the purpose of the call, find out as much as you can about the business and have some questions jotted down to refer to, as well as personal attributes that you believe will be an advantage.

It is useful to collect business cards as you meet people and even follow up with a letter thanking them for their time.

Be persistent – don’t wait for a company to call you back. If you haven’t heard, call again.
